Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

Thank you very much for your interest in my work. I mostly receive the same few questions so hopefully this page will assist.

How can I purchase a knife?

I often have a short waiting list as I can only produce a limited amount of work. If you don't see something on my shop page, please message me personally through my contact form or Instagram with the style of knife you are looking for “Chef knife, paring knife, butcher etc.”  When I complete a knife that meets the description, I send details and photos of the knife with an offer to purchase. If you decide to pass, the knife will be offered to the next person on the list.

May I visit your shop?

Unfortunately I do not typically open my shop to visitors. I work from a small space that does not have a storefront. Since it is an extension of my home, having visitors in the past has felt disruptive and invasive although I totally understand why you’d want to see the wizards workshop and hangout. I only get a fixed amount of time in the shop and I like to make the most of it. I can assure you that most of what I do is stand over a belt grinder while wearing a cumbersome amount of protective equipment and make a shocking amount of dust. If you are a a photographer or have press inquiries please submit my contact form.

May I have a free knife?

No. I think you're awesome but please be mindful that I do get these requests on occasion from chefs, influencers and food stylists. I am a creative individual, not a factory. Sometimes I donate work for fundraising and charitable causes, it’s best to follow my Instagram to keep up with that stuff.

Can I custom order a knife?

No. My process does not lend itself to requests but there are lots of great makers who will do that for you.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, please submit a contact form to discuss alternative shipping options from what is offered on my site.

Do you teach classes?

At the moment, no. One day I may consider offering this service but for the time being I do not have the facilities.

As a young cook I was excited to learn how to use my knives, understand what makes a good design as well as maintain them. Gradually my curiosity grew to seeking education in whet stone sharpening, woodworking, jewelry and metal fabrication. Near the end of my time cooking professionally, I had a steady stream of knives coming to me for sharpening, repair and wooden cases, which helped guide my way into pursuing this discipline further.

The primary goal of my creative practice is to create heirloom quality kitchen knives and culinary tools that can be appreciated both for their performance and aesthetic qualities. I believe that handmade goods have a unique warmth and character that should be celebrated. Our world seems intent on creating products that are disposable and not designed for repair, which diminishes how we appreciate the made-world around us. It is uncommon to encounter items that are truly unique or one of a kind. As a craftsperson I choose to express myself by adding unmistakably hand made and unique treasures into peoples lives.

In my small forge and knife making workshop I am able to experiment and create unique steel billets and edged tools. Many of my handles are sourced using local timbers, cured, vacuum stabilized and processed in my own shop. I also do all my own leather work and sharpening, preferring hand tools over power tools. Working with my hands is a way to connect and appreciate the materials I work with, and I look forward to sharing my excitement and passion with you.
